Unable to resolve 'AppCompatPreferenceActivity' in SettingsActivity

I have an AppCompatPreferenceActivity.java. But it shows an error in this
public class SettingsActivity extends AppCompatPreferenceActivity
It says it couldn't resolve 'AppCompatPreferenceActivity'.
And it seems like I am the only one with this problem. Any idea?
Error:(21, 39) error: cannot find symbol class AppCompatPreferenceActivity
AppCompatPreferenceActivity not Exists in google support libs,
you should create a class with same name and use this source:
public abstract class AppCompatPreferenceActivity extends PreferenceActivity {
private AppCompatDelegate mDelegate;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
getDelegate().installViewFactory();
getDelegate().onCreate(savedInstanceState);
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
}
#Override
protected void onPostCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onPostCreate(savedInstanceState);
getDelegate().onPostCreate(savedInstanceState);
}
public ActionBar getSupportActionBar() {
return getDelegate().getSupportActionBar();
}
public void setSupportActionBar(#Nullable Toolbar toolbar) {
getDelegate().setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
}
#Override
public MenuInflater getMenuInflater() {
return getDelegate().getMenuInflater();
}
#Override
public void setContentView(#LayoutRes int layoutResID) {
getDelegate().setContentView(layoutResID);
}
#Override
public void setContentView(View view) {
getDelegate().setContentView(view);
}
#Override
public void setContentView(View view, ViewGroup.LayoutParams params) {
getDelegate().setContentView(view, params);
}
#Override
public void addContentView(View view, ViewGroup.LayoutParams params) {
getDelegate().addContentView(view, params);
}
#Override
protected void onPostResume() {
super.onPostResume();
getDelegate().onPostResume();
}
#Override
protected void onTitleChanged(CharSequence title, int color) {
super.onTitleChanged(title, color);
getDelegate().setTitle(title);
}
#Override
public void onConfigurationChanged(Configuration newConfig) {
super.onConfigurationChanged(newConfig);
getDelegate().onConfigurationChanged(newConfig);
}
#Override
protected void onStop() {
super.onStop();
getDelegate().onStop();
}
#Override
protected void onDestroy() {
super.onDestroy();
getDelegate().onDestroy();
}
public void invalidateOptionsMenu() {
getDelegate().invalidateOptionsMenu();
}
private AppCompatDelegate getDelegate() {
if (mDelegate == null) {
mDelegate = AppCompatDelegate.create(this, null);
}
return mDelegate;
}
}

Why ReferenceQueue always empty in activity?

I'm trying using ReferenceQueue to check Activity if the activity is destory,Whether this activity is recycled.
I just using intent to Main2Activity.class:
switch (v.getId()){
case R.id.btn_turn_two:
Intent intent=new Intent(MainActivity.this,Main2Activity.class);
startActivity(intent);
break;
default:
break;
}
when I press to return MainActivity.class, the Main2Acitivity.class will be destroyed, so I using registerActivityLifecycleCallbacks watch activity in application,
public class MainApplication extends Application{
private watche watche;
#Override
public void onCreate() {
super.onCreate();
watche=new watche(this,getApplicationContext());
}
this class is check the Activity is destoryed.
public class watche {
KeyRefrence ref;
private Context context;
private final Set<String> retainedKeys = new CopyOnWriteArraySet<>();
private final ReferenceQueue<Object> referenceQueue=new ReferenceQueue<>();
public watche(Application application, Context context){
application.registerActivityLifecycleCallbacks(lifecycleCallbacks);
this.context=context;
}
Application.ActivityLifecycleCallbacks lifecycleCallbacks=new Application.ActivityLifecycleCallbacks() {
#Override
public void onActivityCreated(Activity activity, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
}
#Override
public void onActivityStarted(Activity activity) {
}
#Override
public void onActivityResumed(Activity activity) {
}
#Override
public void onActivityPaused(Activity activity) {
}
#Override
public void onActivityStopped(Activity activity) {
}
#Override
public void onActivitySaveInstanceState(Activity activity, Bundle outState) {
}
#Override
public void onActivityDestroyed(Activity activity) {
//weakrefrence to this activity
String key = UUID.randomUUID().toString();
retainedKeys.add(key);
final KeyRefrence weakReference=new KeyRefrence(activity,key,activity.getPackageName(),referenceQueue);
final MyAyTask myAyTask=new MyAyTask(weakReference,activity,context);
myAyTask.doInBackground(null);
}
};
public class MyAyTask extends AsyncTask {
private Activity activity;
private KeyRefrence keyRefrence;
private Context context;
public MyAyTask(KeyRefrence keyRefrence, Activity activity,Context context){
this.activity=activity;
this.context=context;
this.keyRefrence=keyRefrence;
}
#Override
protected void onPostExecute(Object o) {
super.onPostExecute(o);
}
#Override
protected Object doInBackground(Object[] objects) {
gc();
ref=(KeyRefrence)referenceQueue.poll();
if (ref==null){
Log.d(TAG, "onActivityDestroyed:Acitivty is not destory");
}
else if (ref!=null){
Log.d(TAG, "doInBackground: "+ref);
}
return null;
}
}
I have create KeyReference implement WeakReference,and I didn't do anything in Main2Activity.class, I just press the phone return,I check the gc,is working ,but the referencequeue always empty, I'm sure the Activity is destoryed.

How do I know the state of the ToggleButton from another activity?

How do I know the state of the ToggleButton from another activity?
i have class
public class MainScreen extends Activity{
protected ToggleButton tgbutton;
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.mainscreen);
tgbutton = (ToggleButton)findViewById(R.id.advice);
SharedPreferences sharedPreferences = PreferenceManager
.getDefaultSharedPreferences(getApplicationContext());
tgbutton.setChecked(sharedPreferences.getBoolean("toggleButton", false));
}
public void oneClick(View v) {
if(tgbutton.isChecked() == false) { playSound(mSound); }
else { pauseSound(mSound); }
}
}
and
public class SmallprintA extends Activity {
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.smallprint_a);
OnClickListener SendOnClickListener = new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if(tgbutton.isChecked() == true){ playSound(mEmpty); }
else { playSound(mEmpty); }
}
};
}
I need in the class SmallprintA determine the state of the ToggleButton tgbutton. This is possible without class inheritance?
I did tgbutton is static
public class MainScreen extends Activity{
protected static ToggleButton tgbutton; // STATIC
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.mainscreen);
tgbutton = (ToggleButton)findViewById(R.id.advice);
}
public void oneClick(View v) {
if(tgbutton.isChecked() == false) { playSound(mSound); }
else { pauseSound(mSound); }
}
}
and
public class SmallprintA extends Activity {
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.smallprint_a);
OnClickListener SendOnClickListener = new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if(MainScreen.tgbutton.isChecked() == true){ playSound(mEmpty); }
else { playSound(mEmpty); }
}
};
}

how to activate loaddata() from another class

i have this code in the Main extends Activity
public void loaddata()
{
Toast.makeText(Main.this, ("Working"),Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
i use this in the second extends Activity
public void turnon()
{
Main dp = new Main();
dp.loaddata();
}
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.second);
okbutton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.okbutton);
okbutton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener()
{
public void onClick(View arg0)
{
turnon();
}
});
}
but it give force close
any idea
Please create Public class and then put that code inside then access it.
Ex:-
public class GLobal{
public static void loaddata(Activity act)
{
Toast.makeText(act, "Working",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}
And call like this...
Global.loaddata(this);

NullPointerException during a performclick()

I'm doing a unit test of an activity. My activity has a button that calls a simple method (no activities, services or anything else).
java.lang.NullPointerException at
com.android.my.test.MyActivityTest.testPerformClick(MyActivity.java:41) at
java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) at
android.test.InstrumentationTestCase.runMethod(InstrumentationTestCase.java:205)
at
android.test.InstrumentationTestCase.runTest(InstrumentationTestCase.java:195)
at
android.test.ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2.runTest(ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2.java:175)
at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:169)
at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:154)
at
android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner.onStart(InstrumentationTestRunner.java:430)
at
android.app.Instrumentation$InstrumentationThread.run(Instrumentation.java:1447)
My test is this:
public class MyActivityTest extends ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2<MyActivity> {
MyActivity a;
public MyActivityTest() {
super("com.android.my", MyActivity.class);
}
#Override
public void setUp() throws Exception {
super.setUp();
a = this.getActivity();
}
#Override
public void tearDown() throws Exception {
super.tearDown();
}
public void testPerformClick() {
a.getButton().performClick();
}
}
And my activity is this.
public class MyActivity extends Activity implements OnClickListener {
private Button b;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
button = new Button();
button.setOnClickListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0) {
method();
}
private void method() {
// [...]
}
public void getButton() {
return button();
}
}
My guess is that you need to change MyActivity to this. Your test is getting a NULL for the method getButton()
public class MyActivity extends Activity implements OnClickListener
{
private Button b;
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
b=new Button();
b.setOnClickListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onClick(View arg0)
{
method();
}
private void method()
{
...
}
public Button getButton()
{
return b;
}
}
